Stephen Gachogu

 

Mr. Stephen Gachogu holds a Master of Science degree in Information Systems from the University of Nairobi, Bachelor of Science degree in Computing and Information Systems from the University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom and a Diploma in Education and has over 15 years experience in the ICT industry.

Mr. Gachogu has undergone extensive ICT training and undertaken a lot of research work on the design and implementation of enterprise IP networks. He holds certificates on Backbone Routing, Multilayer Switching, Network Security, Wireless LANs and Security, WIMAX, VoIP, Internet Development Tools awarded by various institutions including USTTI‐USA, IIT‐Canada. He has attended other ICT courses in Kenya, South Africa, United Kingdom and the USA.

 

Mr. Gachogu holds an active certification in Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CCNA Security,  Cisco Quality of Service Certified and is Cisco Certified Academy Instructor (CCAI) for CCNA and CCNP Courses. He is a qualified Information Systems Auditor (CISA‐ISACA).

 

His area of specialization is in the design, implementation and security of local and wide area enterprise & service provider IP networks utilizing advanced routing technologies and multilayer switching. He has expert knowledge of Ethernet technology, Wireless LANs technologies and TCP/IP protocol suite. Mr. Gachogu also specializes in deployment of enterprise MPLS, IPv6, Network Security and VOIP technologies.

James Makwanda heads the Digital Technology and Management Information Systems department. James holds a MSc Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering from Havana University, underwent two year IEE-accredited Graduate Engineer training programme in Telecommunications and became a Professional Engineer. He has more than 10 years experience in telecommunications especially in LAN and WAN Networking.

Mr. Makwanda has worked for Tel* One Zimbabwe, the country’s top fixed network provider responsible for planning and installations of LANS & WANS Networks country wide and providing the Internet and Data backbone to the ISPs and the individual end users. He also received further training in:

  • Data Networks Technology and Planning (England 1998)
  • Data Communications and Networks (England 2002)
  • Integrated Services Digital Networks (Japan 2000)

Mr. Makwanda is certified in Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Certified Academy Instructor (CCAI) and is currently studying for CCNA Security certifications.

Mr. M. Noorani  holds a BSc. (Liverpool) Degree in Electrical, and C. Eng (MIEE UK). He has over 20 years experience in telecommunications, digital switching and transmission; data communications; tariffs, traffic and cost accounting; LAN/WAN Networking combining both field experience as well as Lecturing.

Jonathan Mwakijele

Jonathan Peter Mwakijele is the Head of Training, Consultancy and Research Unit at the African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI) since 25th April 2013. Before joining AFRALTI, he served the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) as Lecturer and Head of Department, Computer Engineering and Information Technology.  He has been the Programme Coordinator of Master of Communications Management (MCM) and Master of Science in Operational Communications (MOC) Programmes from 2007 to 2011 at KIST. From September 1996 to October 1997, he worked as Senior Lecturer at Soft-Tech Consultants Ltd, Dar es salaam, Tanzania prior to joining KIST in Kigali, Rwanda. He was awarded Bachelor of Science (Hons) with Computer Science degree from University of Dar es Salaam in 1996, Master’s Degree of Communications Management (MCM) at KIST in 2006 and Master of Science in Engineering and Manufacturing Management (EMM) in 2008 at Coventry University, United Kingdom (UK).

From 2009 to 2012, he represented KIST in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Steering Committee Meetings of Centers of Excellence (CoE) Network for Africa. Apart from lecturing undergraduate and postgraduate students and administrative work in the Institute, from 1997 to 2008, he worked in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Center at KIST, the Center was responsible for Internet and Email services to staff and students; and also a number of local and international organizations. He has attended and spoken in several Regional and International Forums and Conferences on ICT, E-Learning, Education and Human Capacity Development; in 2011, he spent two month to learn and understand more about Wireless Networking for Developing Countries at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy.  He is a qualified Wireless Networking Trainer for Developing Countries. He is also a qualified e-Learning trainer. He had a privileged to attend 9 days training in Seoul Korea on Policy for Broadcasting and Communications from 28th November to 6th December 2011. He has traveled over 17 Countries in the last 17 years while on official duties.

Since October 2013, he has been chairing East African Communications Organization (EACO) Human Resource Committee meeting with mandate of two years. Through this portfolio, he is responsible for human capacity development of EACO member states. He has also been part of Broadcasting Assembly of EACO for the last two years. At AFRALTI, he also lectures on ICT Policy and Regulation, which is also covering Broadcasting Policy. He has been selected to represent AFRALTI in the year 2015 to 2018 as member of ITU CoE Steering Committee for Africa.
