AFRALTI HONOURED AS A CHAMPION AT THE WORLD SUMMIT ON THE INFORMATION SOCIETY FOR EMPOWERHER DIGITAL PROGRAMME

AFRALTI has earned global recognition as a Champion at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), for its flagship EmpowerHER Digital: Women’s ICT and Innovation Programme.

This recognition highlights AFRALTI’s pivotal role in advancing the WSIS Action Lines and the Sustainable Development Goals by ensuring that women are not left behind in Africa’s digital transformation journey.

EmpowerHER Digital is a pioneering initiative designed to close the gender gap in technology by providing women and girls with practical skills, access to innovation ecosystems and opportunities to participate actively in the digital economy. The programme blends technical training with mentorship, leadership development and entrepreneurship skills, creating a comprehensive pathway for women to excel in technology-driven careers and innovation spaces. Through workshops, boot camps and mentorship networks, participants are introduced to emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data analytics. They are also guided to design and implement homegrown solutions that address real challenges in their communities, while becoming part of a growing pan-African community of women who are influencing policy, driving innovation and contributing to sustainable digital growth.

The recognition of EmpowerHER Digital at the global WSIS platform underscores the programme’s significance in promoting inclusive innovation and its contribution to building a resilient and diverse ICT ecosystem across Africa. It positions AFRALTI as a leading champion of digital inclusion and demonstrates the power of African-led initiatives to drive sustainable impact.

Looking ahead, AFRALTI plans to expand the EmpowerHER Digital Programme to reach more countries, strengthen its course offerings with advanced technical content and foster even deeper partnerships that create opportunities for women innovators. The next phase will focus on scaling up success stories, deepening collaboration with industry and policy stakeholders, and ensuring that women remain at the centre of Africa’s rapidly growing digital economy.
