AFRALTI advances research and practical solutions for expanding reliable, affordable and future-ready digital connectivity across Africa. The Department works with governments, regulators, industry, academia and development partners on emerging connectivity technologies, wireless networks, IoT communications, broadband solutions and next-generation network technologies. Through applied research, technical advisory, innovation and capacity development, AFRALTI supports the design and adoption of solutions that improve network performance, extend connectivity to underserved communities and enable new digital services. Our work contributes to more resilient, inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystems across the continent. 

• Climate, Environment & Sustainable Development

The Climate, Environment & Sustainable Development thematic area leverages digital technologies, research and innovation to address climate change, strengthen environmental stewardship and promote sustainable development across Africa. AFRALTI develops evidence-based solutions, policy recommendations and technology-driven interventions that support climate resilience, environmental monitoring, clean energy, natural resource management and green digital transformation. Through the application of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), remote sensing, geospatial analytics and data-driven decision-making, the Department works with governments, development partners, academia and communities to design and implement innovative solutions that enhance climate adaptation, improve environmental governance and accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
