1. Kenya–UK AI Governance Programme
The AI Governance and Policy Capacity Convenings between the UK and Kenya project is a strategic initiative funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) to strengthen responsible AI governance through enhanced policy dialogue, institutional capacity building and bilateral collaboration. The project brings together policymakers, regulators, academia, industry, civil society and development partners from Kenya and the United Kingdom to facilitate knowledge exchange, share international best practices and promote evidence-based approaches to AI governance. Through high-level convenings, technical workshops and collaborative learning, the initiative supports the development of ethical, inclusive and innovation-friendly AI policies that align with national priorities while fostering stronger UK–Kenya research partnerships and long-term cooperation.
The project focuses on five key areas: high-level policy convenings, AI governance and ethics, capacity building and knowledge exchange, UK–Kenya collaboration, and evidence generation for AI policy. By strengthening institutional capabilities and promoting multi-stakeholder engagement, the initiative aims to establish a trusted AI ecosystem that balances innovation with accountability, supports informed policymaking, and contributes to sustainable economic growth and digital transformation in Kenya.
