LAUNCH OF THE AFRICA EDITION OF THE BLENDED TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR ICT NETWORK MANAGERS
Institutional partners, grassroots leaders and digital inclusion advocates from across the continent convened virtually to mark the launch of the Blended Training Programme for ICT Network Managers in Indigenous and Rural Communities – Africa Edition (2025–2026). This initiative aims to equip rural and remote communities with the technical, organisational and regulatory knowledge required to build and sustain their own connectivity solutions.
The programme is jointly led by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Association for Progressive Communications (APC), Rhizomatica, and the African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI), which has taken a central role in anchoring the Africa edition. As a premier training and capacity building initiative in the region, AFRALTI has brought both strategic leadership and technical depth to the initiative’s design, rollout and long-term implementation.
The training builds on a successful model piloted in Latin America and is tailored for Africa’s unique rural and remote contexts. Through participatory methods and grounded community experiences, the programme offers five online courses covering telecommunications, electricity and solar basics, policy and regulation, economic sustainability and project development in local contexts.
In his remarks during the launch, Mr. William Baraza, AFRALTI Director, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to community-led transformation. “AFRALTI is proud to back this initiative, which blends technical knowledge with social impact. Empowering community-based talent is vital for long-term change,” he stated.
AFRALTI’s involvement extends beyond institutional support. The Institute’s presence ensures the programme remains responsive to the evolving needs of African communities while maintaining high standards of technical excellence.
